Can most people bring it on at will when needed? Well at least sometimes? In general I really like the experience of hyperfocus and have not suffered too many bad outcomes because of it. Sometimes my ability to prioritize fails me and I end up hyperfocused on some minor thing while important things go undone. Of course I do not have perferct control and frequently end up realizing I have been running down an internet rabbit hole after some random thing for a couple hours. l can also get overstimulated and go into brain freeze, where I have to actively work to slow myself down to get into the hyperfocus state. I am not so good at turning it off, but since most of the time I only purposely turn it on for things that have a defined end it usually works out.
